The Qur’an of Gwalior

From 2008 to 2012, I worked on the research program led by the UMR 8167 in association with the Labex ResMed, focused on The Gwalior Qur’an. Produced at Gwalior, India, in 1399, this unique manuscript is preserved in the Aga Khan Collection in Toronto. Equipped with a complex hermeneutical system, referring to different levels of reading, as well as a final divination book, this manuscript is also a particularly rich and complex ornamental system that is part of different stylistic trends of the Islamic world (Middle Eastern Mamluk, Mongolian Iran and post-Mongolian) and non-Islamic (Jainism).

While doing research on the Indian Qur’an production from the 14th and 15th centuries, I ensured the scientific coordination between the different teams involved in the project.

As well, I contributed to the organisation of a symposium held at the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art in June 2012.
